Kirishima cabins
After taking the Shinkansen from Osaka (about 5 hours at oover 250 km/hour), we arrived in Kagoshima, and were met at Kagoshima-Chuo station and driven to a nice camping area (comfortable Japanese cabins) for a night to meet the family of our friends whose wedding we were invited to. We ate BBQ foods, vegetables, rice and beverages while getting to know this very welcoming family! |

Folowing the wedding ceremony, we drove to a traditional ryoken (Gajoen.jp) and were assigned beautiful rooms, each with an onsen hot spring bath!

Hot spring water right in our rooms! |
The wedding reception was in a dining room where we ate quite a variety of locally grown foods - vegetables, fish and chicken with champagne, plum wine, beer and sake. We felt very well cared for thanks to Dave and Hicari and family!

Locally grown produce and even the fish! |
After the dinner we were invited to a fire pit for sake and shochu (warmed by the fire) and a very nice evening to visit and enjoy our time together.

Rooms were in cottages where thatching was being replaced. |
